The incident took place around 8:46 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, when the Nassau County Marine Bureau received the call for help, police said.

According to police, after receiving the distress call the Marine Bureau, Aviation Bureau, U.S. Coast Guard, 7th precinct officers, and multiple fire departments conducted a search.

Nassau Heli 5 located the man in the marsh on Big Crow Island. The helicopter landed and recovered the unidentified man,  police said.

His vehicle became stuck in the muck of the wetlands too far from shore for him to walk or swim to safety, and in an area that prevented boats from reaching him, police said.

He was transported to Wantagh Park where he was reported to be uninjured. He refused further medical attention.
